A Denver Post writer's favorite Denver weed shop: DANK Dispensary – The Know

You can’t drive more than a mile in my Northeast Denver neighborhood without running across a giant green pot leaf on the side of a building.

And yet, I’ve been loyal to the same dispensary ever since recreational cannabis become legal in Colorado starting Jan. 1, 2014. I stood in line there for hours on that first day, although I’ve tried dozens of others while writing about cannabis for The Denver Post and various national outlets. DANK Dispensary (3835 Elm St., Suite C) is still my favorite, by a wide margin.

Smart, friendly budtenders lord over a veritable candy shop of products, pushing the clever design, merch and paraphernalia to the side in favor of customer service (though they have all that other stuff, too). Their drive-up, curbside service during the pandemic was a brilliant answer to social distancing, and it reminded me of the glorious patchwork of drive-thru liquor stores in my home state of Ohio.

In Ohio, however, liquor stores don’t typically grow or manufacture their own products. The house-grown flower at DANK, which also offers medical products, is a large part of what keeps me coming back. My favorite strain is Death Star (hello, video games), but their Chemmy Jones is a knockout, their Blue Dream lives up to its name, and their Golden Goat even caught me glittering a few times.
