DeKalb Council Approves Medical Marijuana Dispensary Licensing … – WspyNews (press release) (registration)

Plans for a medical marijuana dispensary in DeKalb received final approval from the city, while two requests for dispensaries in Sycamore are also moving forward.

Only one, if any, will be allowed by the state.

The DeKalb City Council has voted unanimously to give final approval to the permit requested by Justice Grown for a medical marijuana dispensary in the multi-tenant building on southeast corner of Peace Road and Pleasant Street.

But before that, or any dispensary opens in DeKalb County, the state needs to issue the single state dispensary license for the county.

Jamil Taylor with Justice Grown says they’ll now put pressure on the state to do that.

Also Monday night, the Sycamore Plan Commission recommended city approval of two separate plans for dispensaries. One would be in an existing building at 22-25 Gateway Drive.

The other would be in a yet-to-be-constructed building, also, on Gateway Drive.

Even though three dispensaries are being proposed, there is only state dispensary permit available in DeKalb County under the pilot medical marijuana program.

Taylor says the state decide who gets the one permit using a scoring process.
