CBS 13’s April Hettinger looks into the new location for cannabis users

SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Many know April 20 is referred to as marijuana day or 4/20.

But just in time, another recreational marijuana dispensary will soon be operating in Yuma County.

This will soon be your new pick-up spot for cannabis products in San Luis, after this dispensary was granted a recreational marijuana license the day before 4/20.

The Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS) awarded 13 dispensary licenses for any county with less than two dispensaries.

A drawing determined this San Luis dispensary called Yuma County Dispensary LLC would be able to open out of a total of 58 applicants.

Robert Smith, director of marketing and sales at Territory Dispensary says this is a good opportunity for rural communities.

“I’m glad that that’s now another opportunity for, you know, customers in that area. Some of the remote areas, what we’ve seen in the last few years is that a lot of them have moved to Tucson, to Phoenix, to the larger areas,” Smith explained.

The building is located at 708 N. Archibald Street.

More people are buying cannabis which is why another license was approved in Yuma County.

Territory Dispensary in Phoenix says about half of their customers are medical and the other half are adult-use.

“We’re about two times or double the revenue we were before,” Smith stated.

With the shortage that was anticipated, many dispensaries now have it under control which is why the AZDHS is allowing more dispensaries to enter in the business.

Dispensaries also had 4/20 specials, something they haven’t really been able to do this year.
