QUINCY — The Gem City’s third recreational adult-use cannabis dispensary held its grand opening in Quincy on Friday after a soft opening weeks earlier.
“Today has all been in the works for a little over a year and a half. It’s been a long time coming,” said Chris Wildrick, chief operating officer for Herbal Remedies, a locally-owned cannabis business that also operates a medical-use dispensary and an adult-use dispensary in a strip mall at 4440 Broadway. The company’s new dispensary is located at 1837 Broadway.
The grand opening celebration, which continues through Monday and includes a number of artisans giving demonstrations, was an event that Wildrick was not sure would ever come.
“For the past year and a half, it has been just (CEO Bob Lansing) and I and the team we have here filling out paperwork after paperwork. We are pretty proud of that and pretty proud that we are putting a second business back into Quincy, creating jobs and educating our community about cannabis,” Wildrick said.
The 1837 Broadway location, which opened in the former location of Daylight Donuts, employs 20 people, but Wildrick said that number will likely grow to 30 in the coming weeks as the company continues to recruit new employees.
The new location will be markedly different than the other Herbal Remedies locations, which will continue to stay focused on those who use cannabis for medical purposes, Wildrick said.
“This particular facility will be adult-use only and geared more towards the recreational use. Our goal is to differentiate this location with products that are unique to this location,” Wildrick said.
For example, the eastern wall of the dispensary is lined with non-cannabis merchandise, including T-shirts, socks and other items.
