Inside look at proposed recreational marijuana dispensary in downtown Springfield – WWLP.com

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – An Oregon-based cannabis company wants to open a dispensary in downtown Springfield.

Diem Cannabis hopes the city will approve their application so they can sell recreational marijuana in Springfield.

Diem Cannabis held a walking tour today of the historic Hampden Bank Building on Main Street in Springfield, the site of their proposed recreational marijuana dispensary.

The Company’s CEO showed us the current condition of the 101-year-old building, and what it will take to renovate it. Diem Cannabis purchased the building for $285,000 last December, and they plan to spend more than three times that much to restore and renovate the old building.

“Its a beautiful building but it needs a lot of work. It’s a 1918 building so we’ve budgeted about 1 million bucks. It sounds like an incredible amount of money and it is a lot of money, but this building will be amazing when it opens up.” Chris Mitchem – CEO, Diem Cannabis

Mitchem told 22News they intend to provide well-paying jobs to local residents at their proposed Main Street dispensary.

Springfield is expected to name the first four recreational marijuana companies they’d negotiate host community agreements within the next month. Mitchem said if the city selects them, they hope to begin selling pot sometime in 2020.
