JACKSON, MI – Jackson will get its first marijuana dispensary nearly a year after Michigan began licensing recreational marijuana sales.
Jackson City Council approved the retail license for Attitude Wellness operating as Lume Cannabis Co., 1512 N. West Ave. in Jackson Crossing, at its virtual council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Lume will open for its first sales at 1 p.m. on Friday, it announced. First-time customers will receive a 10% discount.
Lume is licensed to sell both medical and adult use marijuana after getting approval from both the state and the city.
“At Lume, we take great pride in offering an unmatched variety of safe and high-quality THC and CBD products and we are excited to introduce our brand and show cannabis in a new light to adult-use consumers in Jackson County,” President and COO Doug Hellyar said in a statement. “We look forward to joining this vibrant community and serving the cannabis needs of the entire Jackson community and beyond.”
Lume will be open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
Plans for the store were put on hold earlier this year when city officials realized it would be within 1,000 feet of South Central Michigan Virtual, a virtual school site where students can go to class or tutoring. But Council determined a virtual school doesn’t fall under the definition of a “school” in the city’s ordinance.
Lume operates 12 other retailers in the state and is licensed for home delivery. All of Lume’s marijuana flower is grown in Evart, Michigan. Stores offer more than 20 strains of flower, vape cartridges and gummies and a line of Lume-branded CBD products.
