Police arrested a uniformed mailman who kicked in the door of an East Village medical marijuana dispensary Saturday before striking two officers who tried to arrest him, cops said.
Daniel Jean, 30, got into an argument with a 53-year-old security guard at the Columbia Care Medical Marijuana Dispensary on East 14th Street near Third Avenue around 2:30 p.m. because she would not let him bring mail inside the facility, cops said. The guard offered to take the mail from Jean, but he refused to hand it over, police said.
Jean left, came back and gave the mail to a third-party, cops said.
Then he left again and returned — at which time he started kicking at the door, damaging its frame and the lock, cops said.
The guard called 911–but soon spotted a police car and flagged it down, cops said.
When officers tried to arrest him, Jean struck two of them, injuring their knees, hands and back, cops said.
“I am not resisting. I am standing still,” Jean can be heard saying on a video recording before a group of officers took him down to the ground and cuffed him. The video has since been removed from YouTube.
Jean was charged with criminal mischief, obstruction of governmental administration and assault, police said.
