Marijuana dispensary that’s been on licensing waitlist gets OK to move forward in Ann Arbor –

ANN ARBOR, MI — The Ann Arbor Planning Commission unanimously approved a plan Tuesday night for a marijuana dispensary at 3860 Research Park Drive in Ann Arbor.

The dispensary, Herbal Society, originally applied for one of the 28 marijuana permits allowed by the city in 2018. It has been on the waitlist since then but recently reached the top of that list. Herbal Society plans to open under both a medicinal and recreational use license.

“It’s something we didn’t think would happen,” said Herbal Society spokesperson Lamar Jarbo.

Herbal Society will move into the first floor of the 9,120-square-foot, two-story building on Research Park Drive, which currently sits vacant. Although the dispensary still needs permits for construction, it should be open by the end of the year, Jarbo said.

The dispensary will be required to update the rear façade of the building, which faces State Street, as well as install amenities, such as picnic tables and bike racks, Jarbo said.

Documents submitted to the city indicate the dispensary will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 7 p.m.
