WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — The borough’s third medical marijuana dispensary will make its home below Williamsburg’s Pod Hotel, becoming the first weed outpost for the neighborhood.
Remedy, a dispensary managed by Valley Agriceuricals, has signed a lease for a 3,800-square-foot space at 178 North 4th St., the Commercial Observer first reported.
The new outpost, in one of several retail spaces at the base of the Pod Hotel on Metropolitan Avenue, will be the first New York City location for the company. Valley Agriceuticals is one of 10 medical marijuana companies licensed by the state of New York and is allowed to open a maximum of four dispensing locations.
Remedy operates other locations in the state, including two in upstate New York and one on Long Island. The company employs specialized pharmacists at its outposts to help educate patients while dispensing the medical marijuana.
“Valley Agriceuticals’ mission is to bring pharmaceutical-grade, standardized doses of medical cannabis to qualified patients throughout the State of New York,” the company says on its website.
The dispensary will become Brooklyn’s third, adding to an industry that seems to be quickly expanding since the first dispensary opened in the borough in January.
That first dispensary was opened by Citiva in Park Slope. It was shortly followed by a new medical weed dispensary in Brooklyn Heights, which announced in February they would open up a spot on Court Street. That dispensary is run by Columbia Care, which runs three other dispensaries in the state and was the first to open a dispensary in New York City.
The Williamsburg dispensary will be the sixth to open city-wide.
