The River Valley area is set to have 4 medical marijuana dispensaries, but only 1 dispensary will be open in Fort Smith.Representatives with Fort Smith Cannabis Co. told 40/29 News it could be sometime in 2020 until they are ready to serve customers at their location on Ayers Rd. in the city. A company representative said the store is planning to cultivate, process and dispense medical marijuana. The representative said there is not enough product in the state to sale to customers.Dispensaries have also been licensed in Clarksville, Russellville and in Bluffton, which is more than a 2 hour drive southeast of Fort Smith. None of the dispensaries have announced an opening date.”It is a little bit frustrating that it is taking so long, I and many others are a little bit impatient about it,” Hannah Evans said. “I have really bad anxiety and some PTSD issues from some things that occurred in my past and I’ve found that marijuana is really helpful.”Evans said she would be willing to drive to Fayetteville to purchase medical marijuana. But currently, there are no dispensaries open for business.”I hope that something opens up in our area soon,” Evans said. “Not just myself but for other people that can’t commute to far places as well.”
