WILKES-BARRE TWP. — A new medical marijuana dispensary will open to patients Wednesday next to Buffalo Wild Wings in Wilkes-Barre Twp.
Ethos Cannabis, a multi-state medical dispensary headquartered in Philadelphia, is expanding its footprint and opening its fourth dispensary in Pennsylvania at 326 Bear Creek Commons.
An open house was held Friday at the new Ethos Cannabis medical marijuana dispensary.
Alex Chadwick, chief of staff and vice president of strategic development for Ethos, said the new facility will initially employ 12 full-time and part-time employees who will serve patients with 24 qualifying conditions defined in Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Act.
These conditions include cancer, post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety.
“With COVID, there are a lot of people benefiting from medical marijuana for anxiety,” Chadwick said.
Anyone who comes to Ethos must be referred by a doctor and have a patient card, he said.
Ethos operates its flagship dispensary in Philadelphia and has locations in Allentown and Montgomeryville as well as Maryland and Massachusetts.
The medical marijuana dispensary plans to open additional locations at 113 Woodbine St., Hazleton and Pittsburgh area by the end of the year, Chadwick said. Two more dispensaries are planned in the future in the Pittsburgh area and another one in the Philadelphia area, he said.
David Clapper, president and chief financial officer of Ethos, said the additional dispensaries in Pennsylvania are “critical in expanding our footprint outside of our roots in Philadelphia.”
“Our convenient location close to the Wyoming Valley Mall is an ideal location to serve the people of Wilkes-Barre,” Clapper said.
In all, Ethos employs about 200 people at its cannabis production facility and dispensaries throughout Pennsylvania.
Chadwick said he believes Gov. Tom Wolf’s push to legalize adult-use marijuana in Pennsylvania is positive and would provide greater access for many people.
