BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — – People who have prescriptions for medical marijuana won’t have to go to the suburbs for it. Soon they’ll be able to get it in the city of Buffalo. A new medical marijuana dispensary will open its doors downtown soon.
Botany — it’s the study of plants.
At The Botanist, a new medical marijuana dispensary, pharmacists will study their patients to find the best treatment for them.
“There’s a lot of patients that we think we can help here,” said Harris Damashek, chief marketing officer at Acreage Holdings.
The first of four locations to open in New York State will start business soon on Seneca street in downtown Buffalo.
Harris Damashek says he believes Buffalo is under-served when it comes to medical cannabis.
“It’s a huge veteran population. We’re in the middle of a medical corridor with University of Buffalo and a number of other medical institutions that we hope to partner with,” said Damashek.
The Botanist will sell different cannabis products including pills and vapes.
Sonya Parrish says it’s not the typical cannabis retail store.
“Part of the patient experience will be education. So when they’re sitting down with a pharmacist, or when we have educational material for them.” said Sonya Parrish, director of New York State Plant Operations.
But the goal is the same — to help patients with certain illnesses get some relief.
“When those patients see their physicians, see their doctors and are looking to get medical marijuana that hopefully this is a convenient place for them to stop off,” said Damashek.
While recreational marijuana isn’t legal in New York State yet, reps with The Botanist say this dispensary could open a new door.
“We’re highly focused on the medicinal side, should the rules and laws change in the future, we would definitely consider how we would navigate through that,” said Parrish.
