Giving Tree Health Center wants to open on Pleasant Street

FALL RIVER – The Giving Tree Health Center, one of nine companies trying to open a marijuana business in the city, has announced that the public hearing for its planned dispensary will take place later this month.

According to a notice issued by the company’s attorney, the hearing will be held at 6 p.m. on March 27 at the Fall River Police Department and focus on the proposed facility that would cultivate and sell marijuana. The facility is planned to be located at 847 and 867 Pleasant St.

The meeting will consist of a presentation by The Giving Tree Health Center representatives and allow members of the public to ask the company questions.

The company is one of 10 marijuana businesses that have letters of non-opposition and host community agreements signed with the city. Thus far, only one of these businesses, Northeast Alternatives, has received the necessary licensing from the state to open for business.

According to the host agreement Mayor Jasiel Correia signed with the company, The Giving Tree Health Center has consented to paying 3 percent of its annual gross revenues and annual payments of $50,000 to the city.
