FITCHBURG – Patients reliant on medicinal marijuana for treatment, and those who just enjoy it recreationally, will soon have a local outlet to visit.
Atlantic Medicinal Partners is looking to open its first recreational marijuana dispensary on Crawford Street in Fitchburg in late August. This would not only be AMP’s first location in the city, but the second recreational marijuana business in town after Local Roots Cannabis Crafted located on Lunenburg Street.
As for that opening date, AMP CEO Steve Perkins described it as a “constantly moving target” due to the company still being in the process of hiring staffers and developing products. When the store does open, Perkins said 14 trained employees will be in the building’s stylish main lobby providing customers with product information overseen by two assistant managers. Around 20 to 30 more specialists will be in the building’s back rooms growing and treating cannabis products the store will later sell.
“We’re looking for people who have good experience with cannabis,” Perkins said. “We like people who have a great attitude towards customers, motivated people from Fitchburg and surrounding areas.”
As for the products up for sale, AMP Director of Operations Scott Murphy said the company will be bringing cannabis seeds to the facility to harvest, dry and test the flowers. From there, AMP is able to sell cannabis flowers, process flowers into oils for sale and use the oils to develop edibles. Murphy added that customers can order products online and pick them up in-store, after going through a security vestibule with sophisticated ID verification equipment to ensure patrons are of age and have a prescription for certain products.
Fitchburg is not the only stamp AMP is looking to make in Eastern and Central Massachusetts. Perkins said the company is looking to establish two other dispensaries
