Local Roots New England Inc. is seeking a special permit to open an adult-use marijuana dispensary on Rte. 20.
MARLBOROUGH — Local Roots New England Inc. officials are calling their proposed location for an adult-use marijuana shop on Rte. 20 the perfect site for a dispensary.
Company officials outlined their plan to open a dispensary at 910 Boston Post Road East (Rte. 20) to city councilors Monday during a public hearing on their request for a special permit. Local Roots leaders said ample parking, a traffic signal in front of the proposed shop and lack of residential neighbors make the property an ideal spot for their business.
“We think this is a fantastic site for this use,” said Michael Staiti, of Local Roots.
The neighbors around the proposed location are mostly commercial, so there will be minimal effects on residents. Staiti said the dispensary has 32 dedicated parking spaces, four more than required. However, once nearby commercial businesses close at 4:30 p.m., there are 95 parking spaces available. Much of Local Roots’ business is done in the evenings and on weekends.
The traffic signal in front of the site will help reduce any potential congestion, company leaders said.
The site is also within the city’s recreational and medical marijuana regulated zone — which on Rte. 20 extends from the Sudbury line to Phelps Street on the east side and from the Northborough line to Interstate 495 on the west side.
Local Roots is seeking to join Garden Remedies and Vedi Naturals as marijuana dispensaries in the city. Garden Remedies opened a medical and adult-use dispensary last year in the Marlboro Square Plaza. Vedi Naturals recently received a special permit to open an adult-use dispensary at the Twin Boro Crossing Plaza on Marlborough’s west side and hopes to open soon.
