A 16-year-old was shot several times at a marijuana dispensary near El Cajon midday Friday, and the gunman drove off, a sheriff’s lieutenant said.
After the shooting, the victim’s friends dropped him off at a nearby gas station, where police were called about noon, Lt. Pat McEvoy said.
El Cajon police and sheriff’s deputies both responded, but the Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation because the shooting happened about a block outside the city limits.
The shooting occurred at a marijuana dispensary on North Second Street, between Greenfield and Pepper drives. The dispensary is believed to be unlicensed.
Medics took the victim to a trauma center, McEvoy said.
“The victim was last known to be in critical condition,” sheriff’s Sgt. Phillip Beaumont said in a late Friday night news release.
The gunman fled in a white BMW, according to McEvoy. No arrests had been made as of Friday night, Beaumont said.
The road is now open. Thanks for your patience & cooperation.
