VERONA, NJ — Verona will not be getting a cannabis dispensary in the near future.
Negotiations between the township of Verona and Green Thumb Industries (GTI) New Jersey, LLC broke down last week, ending the possibility that there will be a new medical cannabis dispensary in town.
Township manager Matthew Cavallo made the announcement on Thursday, after several weeks of talks between the municipality and GTI.

“The township entered into negotiations with GTI in an effort to determine whether GTI would agree to execute a written agreement with terms and conditions satisfactory to the township,” Cavallo said in a statement. “After many hours of negotiations regarding the terms of GTI’s operations, the parties have been unable to reach an amicable agreement. At this time negotiations have ceased. Therefore, the Township Council will not be acting on GTI’s request for a letter of support and the matter is considered closed.”
GTI New Jersey, which opened a dispensary in the city of Paterson less than two years ago, has asked the Verona Township Council to write a letter of support for a dispensary that would be located at 30 Pompton Ave., the former Chase Bank location.
GTI New Jersey, during a presentation to the council in May, reaffirmed a strictly medical use of the dispensary with no preemptive plans to open up recreationally while it is still illegal in New Jersey.
