The Patel family has owned and operated convenience stores in Waltham for over two decades.
Now, the next generation of the entrepreneurial family seeks to continue the tradition, however in their own way in another industry.
They seek to open a cannabis dispensary for adult use and medical use in the city.
Priyanka Patel and Tejal Patel are co-founders of Uma Flowers, a cannabis company that was founded last year. Davis Patel serves as operations advisor.
The hope is to contribute to the business community of Waltham long-term, Priyanka Patel says.
“We’re here for the long run,” she said. “We’re going to be here on a day-to-day basis. We’re not going to be like some of these other companies just looking for a quick exit.”

Priyanka and Davis Patel are siblings, the daughter and son of the Patel family that owns three businesses on Main St.: Veronica’s Convenience store, 1074 Main St., J & J Variety, 851 Main St., and Watch City Cigar, 853 Main St.
Tejal Patel and Davis Patel are spouses.
The team has secured a location in Waltham—196 Bear Hill Road—for the dispensary which would be a medical use dispensary and an adult use dispensary under one roof, meaning the sale medical and adult use cannabis products would be happening simultaneously.
Cannabis use may have a stigma but it shouldn’t, says Davis Patel. It is used to help treat a variety of things including insomnia, PTSD, anxiety and pain management.
